Android Device
On Wednesday, I will be turning over the Android device to the lab for your testing. I will be removing the SIM (so please put in a Globe/Smart prepaid SIM – couldn’t get Sun SIM to work). Unfortunately, this device has a defective wifi radio – which will render our app testing a bit more expensive considering that we need to connect to the internet via 3G. Yeah, can’t complain since this is free.
I am still trying to procure another one for the lab – just waiting for Smart to make the HTC Magic available as prepaid.
Just When We Thought…
Our cursor problem is not yet solved. When we tried our code in Linux, we found out that it cannot support colored images. XD The rendered image was horrible. It was black and white and sort of how do you call that? “Sabog”? So just when we thought that our cursor problem is solved, it is not.
Here Wii Come
On the happier side, we already have the Wiimotes!! Hoorayy!!! Finally, we can be able to play with it, experiment and do the things necessary for us to implement our projects. Enthusiasts we were, we tried connecting the wiimote to our machine. We did a lot of downloads and installation of different files and installers, most of them to our disappointment. Nonetheless we found some helpful stuffs, like the WiiRemoteJ API and Avetana for the buletooth connection. We found a simple code that shows the accelerometer of the wiimote working. Note that we are running our project on Ubuntu 8.04. If you have questions on how to connect your wiimotes, you can comment or email directly. So far we are still playing with the wiimote, still unveiling its capabilities.
Here Wii Go!! <:-P
The Wiimotes have finally arrived. There were four of them and a nunchuk. How we wished the console came with them, but for the moment, we’re quite contented to have just the controllers.
Their arrival must have inspired Dr. Caro a lot because next week we’d be doing a demo of our first mini game. T_T

me and the wee, i mean wii, mote
where art wii
We decided that we would use the Nintendo Wii for developing games over the Sun Spot, first because Wii is way cooler than the Sun Spot and second, the Wii is more marketable than the other. But we will not be using the whole console (I wish) ,just the Wii remote or more commonly known as Wiimote. Two groups will be developing the Wiimote(Me and Aubrey, Angge and Guillard). For our group, instead of focusing on grade 1 or grade 2 mathematics, Dr. Caro suggested that we work on grades 4-6 mathematics. Since we are thinking of developing games for kids using the Wiimote, the most useful feature would be its bluetooth capability. We are planning to develop our project in Linux, because there exists a free JSR-82, the Java Bluetooth API implementation for Linux. Read the rest of this entry »
