Even before seeing them, I already knew from Joan that we already have our Wiimotes there. I was very excited. “Coding na…”, I said to myself.

Wiitnessing It Works :D

Excited on acquiring our brand new Wiis, we immediately booted the PC so that its operating system is Linux.  First task, install the latest java.  😀 Easy, right?  But what we always get after downloading the latest jdk (which took several minutes) is a corrupted file.  As we believed that patience is a virtue, we just repeated the download for almost… ten times? XD Already disappointed with so much time wasted, I decided to try another site that offers a way on how to install java via the terminal (You see, I am a little bit ignorant with Linux. XD).

After minutes or so, java was at last installed. 😀

Next task, Avetana installation.  Following Stuart’s blog, I got along just fine extracting here and there, editing environment variables, until the command sudo ./install did not work.  During this time, I decided to pass the task to my partner.  After a few minutes, with the help and support of a member from MyMathVenturesJR, they did it! 😀 Some forums turned out to be really helpful.  Since other persons who tried the installations we were doing sometimes encountered same problems.

Here Wii Go!! <:-P

The Wiimotes have finally arrived. There were four of them and a nunchuk. How we wished the console came with them, but for the moment, we’re quite contented to have just the controllers. 😛 Their  arrival must have inspired Dr. Caro a lot because next week we’d be doing a demo of our first mini game. T_T

We decided that we would use the Nintendo Wii for developing games over the Sun Spot, first because Wii is way cooler than the Sun Spot and second, the Wii is more marketable than the other. But we will not be using the whole console (I wish) ,just the Wii remote or more commonly known as Wiimote. Two groups will be developing the Wiimote(Me and Aubrey, Angge and Guillard). For our group, instead of focusing on grade 1 or grade 2 mathematics, Dr. Caro suggested that we work on grades 4-6 mathematics. Since we are thinking of developing games for kids using the Wiimote, the most useful feature would be its bluetooth capability. We are planning to develop our project in Linux, because there exists a free JSR-82, the Java Bluetooth API implementation for Linux. Read the rest of this entry »

I, my partner Angelica, and the Joanne and Au (who will be developing mini-games for the elementary math level) have decided to use the Wii Remote, or simply Wiimote, as our game’s input device. Read the rest of this entry »
