Summary:
As the internet becomes more accessible, particularly in mobile devices, a lot of applications are starting to emerge from various fields. One of these fields is the healthcare, which has even coined a new term, “m-health”. Most of these applications are of one type – electronic medical record (EMR). However, mobile-based EMRs pose security issues. There are issues of security of electronic data transactions, mobile user authentication and secure data storage. This article showed a possible solution through the use of an on-the-phone security agent, also known as a security capsule. With a single sign-on, the security of the device and the data is certain. The security capsule protects data through encryption. To view the medical data, the capsule decrypts the information and makes it accessible on a read-only basis. This means that the decrypted data cannot be stored or transferred.
