Our webcam capture is inverted! 🙂

We inverted our webcam image by swapping the x,y coordinates values with its mirror image.

A little bit of subtraction + manipulation with the RGB = inverted image. 😀

The only thing left to do (after the swapping of values) was to update our controller points.

try and try until it’s inverted!

After our thesis presentation, we we’re given an ulitmatum.. TO INVERT THE IMAGE BY MONDAY. O_o

So right after the presentation, we started searching for possible (and efficient way) to invert our webcam capture. We were very worried that this can make our program slower since every time we capture an image, it must undergo an inversion.

First option was Java Advanced Imaging (Sir Rom’s suggestion)

The Java Advanced Imaging API (JAI) provides a set of object-oriented interfaces that supports a simple, high-level programming model which allows images to be manipulated easily in Java applications and applets

JAI can invert an image with a single command

 PlanarImage output = JAI.create("invert", input);

Our 3rd game is about subject verb agreement.  The player will pop the bubble with the correct verb for the sentence. 🙂

Wassup Doc!

I think we had our first meeting with Dr. Caro on the 1st week of July (July 7?? Not sure).

The first meeting was somewhat like a getting- to-know-each-other- type-of-meeting. It was a short meeting where we introduced ourselves to Dr. Caro and discussed our proposed thesis projects.   My partner and I were asked to make an interactive game on English. It is a game that will test public school students in their English skills. Our adviser told us to cover topics from grade 6 curriculum.  (We initially thought of doing a game for grade 1-3 students because it would be easier to conceptualize an idea/game). Also unlike the other advisee of Dr. Caro, we are the only group that will be using the webcam as a game controller, so we are not really sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing.

I can’t remember everything that transpired that day but it was the meeting that sealed our fate with the webcam.  Mr. Webcam, please be good to us.  😀

Btw, our meetings would be every Tuesday and(or) Thursday.
